Jesse Jackson, Jr. resigns from Congress Today...and More.

      Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives today. This decision was made after undergoing treatment for bipolar depression at the Mayo Clinic. The story being presented today by the media is simply about the man himself. I think there is a larger one here. A problem that is just as news worthy.

      Republicans these days love to talk about Ronald Reagan in their crusade to shift the tax burden to the middle class while creating corporate welfare. Yes, Reagan did preach the concept that cutting taxes for the top 1% in America will cause a trickle-down effect and somehow magically put more money in every ones pockets but he also knew there must be exceptions. In 1986, he signed into law a corporate Alternative Minimum Tax. This ensured that firms paid a minimum amount of federal income tax regardless of how many deductions they claimed.       My first post is not meant to draw attention to the silly Texas secession movement. That is something that deserves no recognition. It is simply a prime example of how ridiculous the political landscape has become in our nation. The purpose of this blog is addressing nonsense like this that is taking place in America today and trying to make sense of it. We now live in a country where bi-partisanship is almost impossible.  Politicians chose sides on an issue simply by making their stance the opposite of what his or her opposing party believes, no matter how extreme.
